About Nene IT - Sports Club Web Developer

01

Sports Clubs and Member Organisations Only

I'm the developer who specialises in sports clubs and member organisations. That's the whole thing.

Most clubs are run by volunteers. The treasurer is doing the accounts on a Sunday night, the membership secretary is chasing renewals on email, the captain is sending fixtures on WhatsApp, and somewhere in the middle is a website nobody really wants to touch in case it breaks.

I build the websites and the systems that take that pressure off. Subscription websites for clubs who just need a tidy public face, and bespoke member systems for clubs ready to put memberships, subs, fixtures and event entries online properly.

I've built systems for Oundle Town Rowing Club and Middle Nene Sailing Club, and the same approach works for cricket, rugby, tennis, golf, bowls, hockey, netball, athletics, football, cycling - any sport with members, subs, fixtures or events. It also works for scout groups, rotary clubs, women's institutes, choirs, history societies, allotment associations and charities.

02

Club Websites Need Something Different

Because clubs need something different and most of the market doesn't get it.

Generic web agencies build brochures. They'll happily charge you a few thousand pounds for a website that looks nice but can't take a membership renewal, log a session, or run an open event. The committee changes, the volunteer who knew the password leaves, and the site quietly rots.

Off-the-shelf club software is rigid. Once you've paid your monthly fee you find out it does 80% of what you need, and the 20% it doesn't do is exactly the bit that matters to your club. Their roadmap, not yours.

Wix and Squarespace can't really do members. You can bolt on a paid add-on, then another, then a third for payments, and suddenly your "cheap" DIY site costs more per month than a proper custom build - and still doesn't talk to itself.

I sit in the middle of those three. A real developer who builds a real website or system for the club, owns the hosting and the maintenance, and is on the end of a WhatsApp message when the treasurer can't find the export button.

How I Build Sports Club Websites

Plain English

No jargon. No acronyms. No making the committee feel stupid. I explain things in words that make sense, as many times as you need.

Patience

Most of the people I work with are volunteers, not IT specialists. I'll take the time to make sure you can actually run what I build, without sighing or rushing you off the phone.

Honesty

I'll tell you what your club actually needs, not what costs the most. Sometimes the honest answer is "your current site is fine, just fix the contact form".

One person

You speak to me, every time. No account manager, no junior developer, no ticketing system. The person you call is the person who built the thing.

In it for the long run

Committees turn over. Volunteers come and go. I want to be the steady technical hand the club hands down to the next chair, not a one-off bill on the accounts.

Twenty Years Building Software

I've been writing software for nearly twenty years. Web apps, mobile apps, internal tools, custom databases - some of that work was for larger AI and tech companies, plenty of it for smaller outfits, and a fair bit for clubs in my own community.

Along the way I worked out two things. One, I prefer building for people I'll actually talk to. Two, the most interesting problems are the ones with real users behind them - the parent registering a junior for the first time, the volunteer treasurer running her seventh end-of-month, the captain trying to fill a boat or a side at half past nine on a Friday.

That's why Nene IT only works with clubs and member organisations now. It's a deliberately narrow focus, and it means every feature I build is one I've probably built or seen built five times before, for a club a lot like yours.

Recent Sports Club Builds

Two of the clubs I work with day to day:

Oundle Town Rowing Club - a ground-up rebuild of the entire member operation. Membership records, session bookings, attendance, boat management, performance tracking, crew assignments, internal communications. The treasurer says it's saved her hours every week, and the system has since grown into a separate product used by other rowing clubs.

Middle Nene Sailing Club - a friendly, welcoming public website with event calendars, membership info and a photo-led design that reflects what the club is actually like to be part of. Built so volunteers can update news, events and galleries themselves without breaking anything.

Different sports, different sizes, different budgets. Same idea: build it properly, hand it over carefully, stick around.

Sports Club Website Pricing

I run a subscription model so clubs don't get hit with a big upfront bill. The committee approves a monthly cost about the size of a mobile phone contract, the club has a proper website or system, and that's the relationship.

  • Standard subscription website - £30/month. Tidy public site for the club, hosting included, content updates included. Suits most smaller clubs and member orgs.
  • Extended subscription - £50/month. Same again with online entries, paid event sign-ups, or other club-specific extras.
  • Bespoke systems from £200/month. Memberships, subs collection, fixtures, results, race entries, mobile app - the full club operating system. More on bespoke club systems.

Three-month minimum, 30 days' notice after that. No exit fee, your data is yours, your domain stays in the club's name throughout. Full breakdown on the pricing page.

Built in Northamptonshire, Serving Clubs UK-Wide

I'm based near Oundle in Northamptonshire, which is handy for clubs across the East Midlands. But almost all of the day-to-day work is done remotely - email, video call, the occasional in-person committee meeting - so the geography of the club doesn't really matter. I work with clubs all over the UK.

Want to know if I work with clubs in your area? I almost certainly do - drop me a message and I'll let you know.

"Most club software is built by people who've never sat in a committee meeting. I have. I know which features matter and which ones just look good in a brochure - and I only build the ones that matter."
