Membership Websites for UK Clubs
A membership website is more than a brochure with a login bolted on. It is a members-only area, member sign-up and renewals, gated content and a directory - all working together. We build proper membership websites for clubs and organisations, host them, and look after them on a flat monthly fee.
- Members-only area with proper logins
- Online subscription renewals through Stripe
- Flat monthly fee, no per-member charges
Plus hosting from £15/month
- Public website plus member area
- Member logins and self-service
- Online subs and renewals
- No per-member fees
What Makes a Website a Membership Website
A membership website does three things a normal website cannot. It lets people join and pay online. It gives those members a login to a part of the site nobody else sees. And it keeps a record of who is a member, what they have paid and what they can access. Plenty of clubs have a website and a separate spreadsheet of members and a separate way of taking subs. A membership website joins those up, so the front page, the member area and the membership records are one connected thing rather than three jobs for three different volunteers.
A Plain Website Plus a Spreadsheet
- Members tracked in a spreadsheet on one laptop
- Subs collected by cheque, cash or bank transfer chase
- No members-only area - everything is public or nothing is
- Renewals chased by hand every year
- Contact details always slightly out of date
A Proper Membership Website
- One member record the whole committee can see
- Members join and pay online in a couple of minutes
- A members-only area for documents, directory and more
- Automated renewal reminders, no manual chasing
- Members keep their own details current
What a Membership Website Includes
Online Member Sign-Up
New members join through the website, pick a membership category, and pay there and then. The member record is created automatically - no committee data entry.
Members-Only Area
A login-protected part of the site for documents, minutes, fixtures, directories, score libraries or anything else members should see and the public should not.
Online Subscription Renewals
Members renew online when their subs are due. Automated reminders go out beforehand. The treasurer sees who has paid without sending a single chasing email.
Member Self-Service
Members log in to update their own contact details, see their payment history, and reset their own password. Less admin landing on the committee every week.
Member Directory
An optional directory so members can find each other - by team, section, voice part, year group, whatever fits. Visible only inside the member area.
Public Website Too
The front of the site still does its job - news, events, photos, a clear way to join. A membership website is a public website plus the member layer, not instead of it.
Membership Website Pricing
The same flat-fee tiers we use across every Nene IT site. The member area and online subs sit on the Premium tier; Basic is the public site on its own.

Membership Website vs Building One on Wix or Squarespace
You can add a members area to Wix or Squarespace, and for the smallest groups that is fine. The friction shows up as the club grows. Wix charges separately for the members area, for taking payments, and for bookings - a realistic club setup lands somewhere around £50 to £90 a month once it all adds up, and you still build and maintain it yourself. Squarespace sits at £14 to £30 a month but the membership tools are basic. A Nene IT membership website is built for you, around your actual membership categories and workflows, hosted and maintained, on a flat £30 to £50 a month. The difference is not just price - it is whether you are renting a toolkit or having the thing built properly.
When a Page Builder Is Genuinely Enough
If your organisation has under about 30 members, one membership category, and no need for online payments, a page builder with a basic members area will do the job and cost very little. Be honest about that. The case for a built membership website starts when you have more than one membership type, you want subs collected online, or you have a members-only area that needs to actually work on a phone at 9pm. Below that threshold, keep it simple.
The Members-Only Area Is the Point
The members-only area is what separates a membership website from a normal one, so it is worth getting right. In practice members use it for a small number of things: logging in, checking or paying their subs, updating their details, and reaching the handful of documents or fixtures that matter to them. Those few jobs get prime position and work cleanly on a phone. Everything else - archives, policies, full directories - sits a layer deeper. A members area that tries to surface everything at once just buries the things people actually came for.
Logins Volunteers Will Not Hate
The fastest way to kill a members area is a clunky login. Members forget passwords, so self-service password reset is standard. Committee members should be able to look up a member and see their status without a support request. And the whole thing has to work on a phone, because that is where most members will open it. Get the login right and the members area gets used; get it wrong and everyone goes back to email.
How the Membership Website Connects to Everything Else
A membership website is usually the first piece, not the last. Once members are signing up and renewing online, the same member records can feed a full club management system - bookings, event entries, communications, committee dashboards - without rebuilding anything. Clubs that need that scale tend to start with the membership website and grow into the wider system. If you already know you need the full picture, the club management systems page covers it. If you want to understand the flat-fee model behind all of this, the subscription websites page explains how that works.

Membership Website FAQs
- What is a membership website?
- A website that lets people join and pay online, gives those members a login to a private area, and keeps a record of who is a member and what they have paid. It joins up the public site, the member area and the membership records into one connected thing.
- How is this different from your subscription websites page?
- This page is about the product - the member area, logins and online subs. The subscription websites page is about the pricing model - the flat monthly fee with no upfront build cost. Most membership websites we build are paid for on that subscription model.
- Do members need to download an app?
- No. The member area works in a normal web browser on phone, tablet and laptop. A branded mobile app can be added later if it genuinely helps, but it is never required.
- Can members pay their subs online?
- Yes. Stripe is integrated as standard, for both one-off card payments and recurring subscriptions. Members renew online and the treasurer sees who has paid without chasing.
- What does a membership website cost?
- The public site on its own is £30/month. The full membership website with a member area and online subs is £50/month. Bespoke builds start from £200/month. Hosting is on top, from £15/month. No per-member fee.
- Can you move our existing member list across?
- Yes - from a spreadsheet, a current platform or paper. The member list ends up in one place the whole committee can see, with members able to keep their own details current.
